As an infantry, you just won't see many Forge Guns, since they are primarily an AV weapon. I personally love coming across a FG user; they are a TON easier to kill than an HMG heavy. Yeah, they can one-shot you, but the chances of that are slim if you are smart. I think I've been killed by 3 FGs so far, and all were from a distance (sniping still targets, in other words...)
Against tanks and Dropships...yeah, that's where the FG shines. They definitely give drivers and pilots pause. And yeah, when a good pilot/driver comes out with his vehicle FGs also seem to come out more too.
But the real reason I think FGs are rare? The HMG. Good vehicle drivers are rare in public matches, and I see HMGs unloading into low-end Tanks and Dropships to good effect. And then there is the HMG's effectiveness vs infantry... Most people just don't see the need to spec into FGs right now with the HMG the way it is... |

Most people just don't see the need to spec into FGs right now with the HMG the way it is... Here's the thing, though: Perfect HMG counter? The forge gun. Heavies countering heavies FTW. I agree with people saying there shouldn't be a militia forge gun. Having the swarm launcher for militia AV is sufficient. You could make the argument that there shouldn't be a militia heavy at all (which you basically would be arguing if you removed the militia forge gun, as the only other heavy weapon has no militia variant). Well, the point of what you quoted was more this: You're a Heavy, and you have the choice between two Heavy Weapons; the HMG and FG. You try both of them out and see the HMG gets a ton more kills and is just all around more useful than the FG (you may or may not have gotten into a situation where you need the FG [faced vehicles]), and you've almost certainly seen what a Heavy + HMG can do (either seen a teammate wreck with one or been wrecked yourself), and rarely, if ever, see FGs. So...which, ultimately, as a noob, would you choose?
EDIT: Yes, vets and people willing to put up with the "lesser" weapons can and most likely will find great uses for them...but that's not the vast majority of people... |
